Today we used polymer clay to create some Christmas ornaments. Everyone loved making them and were really creative with their designs.
Last week, the nurture children visited Ice Sheffield to watch an ice show. The children absolutely loved it and were enthralled throughout! They represented Prince Edward to the highest standard and we couldn’t have been more proud of them!
Last week, we worked together to make our own flapjack. The children worked well together to measure and mix ingredients. They then enjoyed eating the flapjack with custard.
Delicious!
Last week, the nurture children enjoyed a fitness session as a part of healthy living week. Miss Allerton even joined in!
Today, after learning about how to stay safe on bonfire night, we made our own fireworks in a bowl!
We used food colouring, vegetable oil and water for this experiment. We added drops of food colouring to the oil. We then poured this mixture into a bowl of water.
The science bit!
Food colouring doesn’t dissolve in oil but it does in water. Oil is less dense than water so it will not mix with it. The food colouring droplets will sink out of the oil because they are heavier and once they hit the water they will dissolve and will look like tiny fireworks.
This week, the nurture children have bobbed for apples (they loved getting their faces wet) and have made their own toffee apples.
We have had some very positive comments from the children’s class teachers about how they are getting on in the classroom so these activities were planned in as a treat.
This week in nurture, we have focused on working collaboratively. The children have worked in pairs to play games and problem solve. We saw lots of children compromising with each other which was wonderful to see. We also heard lots of kind words being said to each other.
What a lovely first week back we have had! The nurture children have settled back in really well and we have loved hearing about what they have been up to during the holidays.
We have improved our outdoor area over the summer so the children have loved spending time outside this week. We have played games & planted some vegetables which we will monitor over the next few weeks.
We recently wrote to our local MP to share our thoughts and worries about climate change. Today we received a reply!
We are so pleased Louise Haigh took the time out of her busy schedule to read and respond to our letter. She was really impressed with the poem we sent to her and she agreed with our thoughts and suggestions.
